The Postmarks: “By-the-Numbers”

As a stop-gap filler between albums, The Postmarks had a genius idea to partner with a music streaming service to release a new cover song every month for 12 months (while recording the proper followup to the debut). The genius part was that each song would have a number from 1 to 12 in the title. When they decided to do it, they only had maybe half of the numbers covered. Some other numbers were more difficult to find covers for, BUT because of that, there ended up being some very un obvious covers.

When creating the initial template, just the cover image (which relied heavily on a different cover color and a theme that reflected the title) and title would need to be changed. There was a nice consistent look between all covers.

After 9 months the label recognized the popularity of the series and decided to collect them all to release on a physical release. Now when the original concept was conceived, we didn’t plan necessarily (design-wise anyways) for a collected album release. My struggle was to create a design that had the same look and feel of the individual releases and somehow incorporate all the cover designs. This is what I came up with. In hind-sight, I like how it came out and it does a good job of incorporating all 12 releases.
